Road tripped up to Ellijay to buy apples and it was so absolutely fantastic that we are making it an annual thing. I have delicious cider and if you ask nicely you may have some, too.

The leaves are not changing in Georgia and some geriatric friends of friends say that they won't this year. I suspect they've been consulting caterpillars or some such, but we'll know for sure soon enough. The mountains are still quite beautiful, so much so that I begin to suspect that the only real draw for the fall colors is their impermanence. The shades of green, all fading to the same dainty, distant blue, calm me in a way very little can these days.

I realize that I am writing this on a page all done up in oranges and reds, but I'll let you in on a secret: Phantom Fury is not supposed to be calming.

Back to the road trip. Singing in the car in the woods in the mountains, looking forward to cider and enjoying the aftershocks of delicious cajun food, it was very hard to remember why I am always so empty and frantic back home.

Then I got back and it wasn't hard to remember. At all.
