the Very Public Diary of Me Becoming a College Student: Part Two Day 3 Am getting sick of waiting for computers in lab to open up so I can check e-mail. Fortunately, small study room next door has window into lab, so can sit writing and spying without looking weird -- weirdness is, for now, well-kept secret. Ran out of one kind of Gatorade; am panicking. Walked around campus some, was slightly less lost, as had mad. Returned home hoping for nice Velveeta dinner, only to find stove not working. At all. Had brownies instead. Orientation tomorrow; retired early to get good night's sleep. Special Note: Dear God, please damn whoever wrote "It's 3am and I Want to Go to Bed" to hell eternally for giving drunken asshole downstairs astonishingly witty idea. And thank you for sarcasm. Would have made 200 decibel comeback of Radiohead's "Go to Sleep" if wasn't resoundingly certain drunken idiot's taste too poor to get joke. What is this, a fucking dorm? Amen. Day 4 Orientation today. Was tired. Stood in line to get UGA ID for more than an hour, was late to area advisement as a result. Not terribly good start. Was invited on walking tour of south campus to accompaniment of distant thunder and gathering storm clouds; respectfully declined. Went home, drank remainder of Gatorade. Robby (Robbie?) moved in, life should get a little less monotonous. Went to Walmart, found myself buying Gatorade powder. Damn the deceitful lure of its electrolytes! Day 5 Robby gave me ride to campus for personal advisement. Was v. happy until I realized his parking spot was on the easternmost edge of campus and my appointment was in Creswell at the opposite end and I was already late. Was obscenely tardy, of course, and personal advisor turned out to be same advisor for whose presentation I was so late yesterday. Am not making good impression. Made new 2:00 appointment and loitered around for a while, then was 45 minutes early out of boredom. On bright side, am now only about 40 minutes in debt. Read a copy of one of the local publications, "The Flagpole." Found the writing pseudo-artistic, elitist, over-politicized, and simplistic. Cannot decide if this is good or bad thing, as personally would prefer anything but this dreck, but campus publications may seek it out. Roommate Brandon made an appearance in the company of a lady. Began rather irritating cycle of retreat-quietly-into-room-for-half-an-hour-then-burst-into-common-area-in-the-middle-of-a-pitched-quarter-hour-domestic-dispute. This cycle continued until 3:00 in the morning, rather worsening my opinion of Roommate Brandon. Beginning to wonder if 3:00am has some sort of insomnio-mystical significance, but this is probably a product of the university environment. Nick ::: 6:29 PM ::: 0 comments
the Very Public Diary of Me Moving into My New Apartment: Part One Day 1 Arrived. Unpacking took a painfully long time. Met two of three roommates; promptly forgot their names. Is OK, as they just dropped junk off and then promptly left. Ate baloney and cheese sandwich. Don't much like baloney, actually. Chose not to drink Cokes, as only have two cans and must economize. Ignored Gatorade, as am not v. fond of Gatorade. Became dehydrated and developed sudden fondness for Gatorade. Became rather sick; sudden fondness passed. Day 2 Loitered around apartment until 3 PM; met other roommate. Other roommate dropped junk off and left. Perhaps am scaring them away. Drank tea, ate PB&J and little debbie swiss cake roll. Got on bus and went to Athens, hoping to find bank and start checking account. Became hopelessly lost and disoriented for three hours in sweltering Athens afternoon. Was desperately thirsty, but could not use $10 bill in damnable drink machines. Nearly abandoned all hope and set up camp, but Tate Center suddenly loomed up out of parched wilderness. Boarded bus and went straight home; am warming up to Gatorade. Am also warming up to air conditioning, which is probably paradox. Also drank both Cokes. May be on downward spiral; damn the beverage's fizzy seductiveness! Nick ::: 11:42 AM ::: 0 comments
Uggans: Is anyone going to this dinner they keep ranting about in my UGA mail? I have no contact with first year students, so I have no clue what's going on. So long as they don't load us into boats I'll be OK. In related news, I have no contact with any first-years, despite the fact that I know a bunch of first-years. So frigging contact me. If you don't have my cell number, send me an e-mail and ask for it. I'm bored stiff at my apartment with no roommates. Of course, you don't know about my no-roommate situation, but that's because I haven't really had time to blog it yet. I'll try to do that now. Nick ::: 11:34 AM ::: 0 comments
*Glances over shoulder furtively* I'm in the computer lab at my apartment complex. I can't really stay in here long enough to write a decent blog, since there are only two working machines available for the inhabitants of 120 4Bd/4Ba apartments. I have to go in less than five minutes anyway, to catch the bus to UGA, open a bank account, and find a job. Just wanted to let everyone back home know I haven't forgotten them and don't plan to forget our single reliable means of communication, either. Speaking of communication, my cellphone is working again. I don't have a new phone connected, though. Ack, people coming. Later. Nick ::: 3:48 PM ::: 0 comments |
