There's a really neat survey on politicalcompass.org that encapsulates my ideas regarding the simplistic "political spectrum" really well. You should check it out.

In case you were wondering, I'm a dead-center economic moderate with libertarian leanings.

If the world needs to get rid of perfectly practical inches and feet just because the conversions are harder than metric, then by god the completely useless one-dimensional left/right political divide has got to go. You're all bright and you can figure out one measly extra axis.

The basic idea is that instead of having "conservatives" on the right vs. "liberals" on the left, which can tend to match people whose idealogies are totally different, you add another dimension. This adds, among other things, authoritarian leftists, acknowledging most real-world communist governments as an actual political possibility.

So now you've got the horizontal economic component, socialists on the left and free-marketers on the right, and also a vertical social component, authoritarian governments up top and anarchists down at the bottom.

Give it a spin and comment with your coords. I'm interested to find out where everyone stands.

(Thanks Robert for the link.)
